I have used ATC from SCM11 to SCM50A and would wholeheartedly recommend them. However they need very good source and amps (for the passive) I have also several pairs of Genelec actives and for the itinerant they are perfect. Small; robust; no amp needed; etc. So my suggestion is a pair of 8030s.

Having used scm11s , scm40s and scm50As I would say that the midrange clarity of the 50's is there in smaller models, mainly lack of bass extension. This is particularly true of 40's as they have a version of the ATC midrange dome. What about some smaller ATC actives?

I've just gone from a big NAIM stack to NAC272 and ATC SCM50A. I've got money in the bank, a living room and cured my naim-upgrade syndrome.

yep. listened and is nearly equal to my squeezebox 282 nDac (new firmware notwithstanding) XPS. Going to get one and maybe aforesaid will be gone as will 3 shelves of fraim!
