    Passive 2.0 speakers for desk

Just to bring this to a conclusion, I have plumped for the Q Acoustics 3010i in the end (I considered the larger model but Q Acoustics themselves recommended the smaller model for my circumstances). They appear to be easy to drive, are a nice size for my desk, look nice enough to keep her happy...

    Passive 2.0 speakers for desk

They do look quite nice, but not really the look I'm going for, something more like Monitor Audio BX1 / R90 / Tannoy M1 sort of appearance really. You can certainly get some interesting kit these days though. I had considered the Ruark MR-1 actives but I just feel £300 on speakers that may...

    Passive 2.0 speakers for desk

Bit ugly, have to have some WAF unfortunately! Otherwise I'd have just bought a pair of Kytes (I loved my Elas) or some MS10i Pearls! Man up you may think, but I've taken over half the living room already with my toys :D

    Passive 2.0 speakers for desk

Thanks for the suggestions. Don't get it per flemming? I've been looking at the Q Acoustics speakers, but would they be any better than say the Missions suggested above? I did see a pretty tidy pair of M70s for £25 on ebay, probably not the greatest speaker made, but £25?! I did actually...

    Passive 2.0 speakers for desk

Good evening. I seem to spend rather a lot of time at my computer, and when the Mrs isn't in, I sometimes prefer speakers rather than being tethered to my headphones. I won't be using these a huge amount, but it would be nice to have something half decent. I have just bought a rather well...

Is it worth getting a newer DAC?

That would drive the OCD in me mad I have to say :) I'll probably leave it for now, it sounds pretty excellent as it is. If my phone can drive these Yamahas loud then I'm sure they're pretty undemanding when it comes to amps. In the past amps have always made the least improvement where...

Is it worth getting a newer DAC?

You are a bad man WAD62, I can see more money being spent, but I have to say, very impressive so far, mind the Yammies are an easy drive - they can go loud even out of my Z3 smartphone which is a pretty quiet output for a phone (much quieter than iphone 5S and HTC M8); do you still reckon I'd...

Is it worth getting a newer DAC?

    I'm afraid you're too late paulski :)

Is it worth getting a newer DAC?

Thats not a bad idea, would one of these Capella headphone amps outperform the built in socket on the Caiman? Its not for speakers, its to pump sound to another external headphone amp for when the girlfriend wants to listen and I would rather not use a headphone splitter for obvious reasons!

Is it worth getting a newer DAC?

I do have to give a shout out to the headphones too as they really play their part, the Yamaha HPH-MT220 are an absolute bargain, best closed headphones I've ever had by some distance (and I've had a lot as anyone who knows me will testify!) and anyone who likes their music served up in a...

Is it worth getting a newer DAC?

Yes it has the latest firmware. I am actually starting to like it even more now. I've never heard some of my music sound like this. I am someone who has in the past been quite disappointed with some DACs and headphone amps but this is certainly a very noticeable upgrade on what I've had in the...

Is it worth getting a newer DAC?

So, I got the Caiman II. It seems like a good buy for the money. Looks good, has some nice features, and seems nicely musical and detailed, surprisingly good sound for just over £200 I have to say. I'm not going to get carried away though like some reviews, but I'm certainly not disappointed...

Is it worth getting a newer DAC?

Thanks, that looks good but no headphone amp by the looks of things, and if I bought that I'd want something better than I have now, and that will spiral quickly.... I think I am going to give the Caiman II a punt.

Is it worth getting a newer DAC?

Agreed. It would seem to be worth a punt seeing that he is happy to refund if not satisfied.

Is it worth getting a newer DAC?

That would seem to make it a logical choice, but I have got an external USB soundcard with an optical out so its not a deal breaker not having the USB input on the DAC (but it would be neater).
