It certainly is a slippery slope, but very worthwhile. I’ve made a few changes recently to reduce noise on the power and signal and I’ve gained more than a substantial component upgrade for far less outlay.

Looks good. I have a Fidelity Audio power filter/spike suppressor that did great things for stereo imaging.

Unless you’re doing a load of room treatment, I’d suggest active speakers with dsp. You will get them to work in your room, without worrying about too many compromises of speaker size and positioning with a traditional setup.

It was the sheer power and control, probably down to the Krell being able for 2ohm loads. The IB1’s are 4ohm, so the Arcam struggled at higher spl’s and would trigger its safety circuit.

PMC’s definitely benefit from decent power, as do a lot of speakers. As an example, I had a pair of PMC IB1’s years ago and initially ran them off an Arcam integrated with 100 or 120watts per channel. It seemed to drive the speakers no problem, but upgrading to a Krell FPB200 was a massive...

I moved from B&W to PMC years ago. It’s all a matter of personal preference and system matching though.

I’ve been using various active monitors from ATC, PMC and Digidesign(PMC built) since about 2009. Currently have PMC AML1’s.

I had a pair of 8010’s and even they could play very convincingly at 3 meters in my living room. Using the hpf at 100hz and paired with subs, they performed very well and loud, if lacking resolution compared to bigger more expensive monitors. I’d imagine the 8331’s do very well at some distance.

Very nice! Is the Krell a 300iL or 400xi?

They sound like they form a great system. I think the digital room EQ is a life saver in your average domestic room. I use active speakers too and a manual form of dsp that I adjust after taking measurements with a mic and REW.

I used a Krell FPB200 with PMC IB1’s. It was a great combination and I feel you need an amp with strong capability at 4ohm and preferably capable of driving 2 ohm loads to get the most control out of the bass.
