Why would you need to alter the VTA now? If Peter Swain has set the turntable up it will be spot on. No need for any meddling until you change the cartridge. And possibly not even then.

Might be worth checking that the thin rubber strip on the lift/lower platform is correctly fitted too. It sits in a groove on top of the platform and can be gently persuaded back if it's not seated properly.

Think the arm lift/ lower platform can be re raised or lowered as required via a small grub screw on the pillar. A 1.2mm Allen key is required IIRC

I can quite understand a dealer's reluctance to fit used kit with unknown provenance. In the event of something failing they'd be open to all kinds of problems/accusations eg "Well you fitted it. You must have done something wrong" or "It was working fine until you got your hands on it"...

Slippery/contaminated belt? Tight/damaged bearing? Wrong bearing oil used? This thread is going round in circles now. IMHO it's time to get the deck to a decent LP12 fettler.
