Any suggestions on how to notate the connections in some fashion? I have zero engraving skills or access to fancy machinery. I don't really want to use ugly stickers if I can help it. I'll probably just want IN / OUT / LEFT / RIGHT or similar on the rear of the crossovers, and maybe something...

Procrastination is second only to faffing in my list of DIY skills pmm. You'll be glad to know that I made some progress today... Nothing to do with speaker cabinets however! The hard part of one upper shelf for the rack more or less done - epoxied, flattened and rough sanded... Just three...

As I'm also in need of a rack to house some gear on, I've decided to use the oak for the shelves. Similar to ladder shelves but smaller and chunkier. Roughly cut to size so far: For the upper baffle I've decided on a slightly different approach. I'm going to use some old worktop I've...

My understanding is the same - the consensus generally seems to be it's a bad idea. For what it's worth I wouldn't be constructing a box in the traditional sense... If I do go ahead with timber for the front section I would essentially be sticking together a very thick front baffle, made of 3...

Hi James, I have a similar conversation with my children frequently. Usually along the lines of NOT eating ice-cream before going out for dinner, which they then do anyway. I'm still thinking it. In the meantime here's some test fitting of the crossover boxes https://ibb.co/dtXBgS4][/url]...

    [WTD] Faulty non working amplifiers

Hello, Would you be interested in having a look at an old Yamaha A100, Reddish? Sounded fab until today but one channel has gone intermittent and could probable do with a general look-over / service. Fraser

Here's some oak to attempt with instead. It looks like a reasonably good match with the veneer on the lower baffle too, at least in terms of colour.

    Dac/Pre Help

I'm using an SMSL SU-9, happy with it. Sorry just realised you need an analogue in! Exposure make some nice shoebox size models which may fit the bill. Or a leema?

    [FS/SWAP] Hypex NC400 monoblocks / SMSL SU9 DAC

Hi, yes now sold. After eBay took their cut I think I was left with about £550. I bought them for £950 not long ago! Definitely seems to be a buyers market at the moment. To close the thread out - I'm not planning on selling the dac currently so please consider this off the market too.

    Getting back into DIY

Lovely space Alan! What is your soldering set up? It's great seeing other's working areas and ideas. I've put together a similar space to yourself in an attached garage which is a major improvement on where was there before. However the arrival of a mitre saw might mean a bit of a re-jig.

I don't have any big tools so to flatten the wood i made a little jig up and used a flattening router bit, running shallow passes over each side until the low spots / high spots were gone. As the boards are now quite small this was quite easy to do and didn't need a huge amount of material...

The starting point for a hardwood upper cabinet / baffle are these old burl off-cuts from my woodman. Due to shape they were very cheap and i've had them sitting around for ages. They are both elm, but very different in colour! Bits of tree - https://ibb.co/nBnhHv2][/url] Rough planing -...

[WTD] Headphone Cable - Mini 4-pin XLR > stereo

I wasn't aware of that, what is the downside? Is there another way of wiring / adaptors to make things work? These were originally single ended cans (fostex T40 or 50 I think) which I rewired into a balanced configuration years ago when I had a balanced amp output. Am I going to have to...

[WTD] Headphone Cable - Mini 4-pin XLR > stereo

I'm looking for a 4-pin mini XLR to stereo jack (3.5 or 6.3 is ok). Ideally 1.5- 2m in length. Around £20 Thought I'd try and find a used one rather than buy new.
