Just reporting back on this one. I got the required din plug to link the preamp circuit to the power amp circuit and it works perfectly. Sounds amazing. thanks all for your help, really do appreciate your expertise and time.

Yep, the din plug is upside down. This sounds like it’s my problem, apologies for leaving out some crucial information earlier on. Thanks both for your help, I’ll figure out the shorting din plug and report back.

Actually, I've tested it again with my computer and what I said was not entirely correct. On my model the DIN plug between 'Tape' and 'Tuner' is labelled 'Pre Amp Out/Power Amp In' not 'Auxiliary' like in the photo you posted (everything else is the same). Actually the only way it works when...

Thanks again for your help. just tested the two RCA to DIN leads that I’ve got and I’m getting a reading from the 3 and 5 pins so it seems like they are connected correctly right?

Right, back on it. I do have a really cheap multimeter that I bought years ago that might do the job. What’s the process for checking the din/RCA pin pattern then?
