How many degrees does your property lose overnight?

We have a terraced house in Edinburgh with high ceilings(14ft). Over the last 10 years, we've been insulating the roof, the boxes around and under the sash windows and the void under the floor. Currently working on the windows themselves, especially those on the windward side of the property...

Wine Enthusiasts - Recommendations for Wine Coolers (La Sommeliere etc)

I know from the Christmas wine thread that there are quite a few wine enthusiasts on PFM. Do any of you use wine storage/cooler units such as those made by La Sommeliere and other brands. I don't have space for a cellar in my my house, just a cupboard under the stairs that has rather variable...

    Making a will advice sort.

You can speak to Citizen's Advice without it costing anything. Some of their information is here: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/family/death-and-wills/dealing-with-the-financial-affairs-of-someone-who-has-died/ and here...

    Elon Musk saving the world

Not sure of the arithmetic here. I think its half a million kilos of CO2. There are (395.7+92.7=488.4) tonnes of fuel on board of which more than half must be liquid oxygen. So about 200 tonnes of rocket fuel on board. 85% carbon so about 185 tonnes, which will make about 685 tonnes of CO2. For...

    Melodic Classical Intro Suggestions?

Have a look at these people (Voices of Music) on YouTube - lots of short accessible pieces of music, many from interesting early composers, beautifully played and filmed. I find seeing it on video really helps me understand the music (I come at classical from a folk music background, watching...

Ferrari to keep making combustion engines

Up the thread there have been a few discussions about 'embedded carbon' (the carbon output of the processes used to manufacture items) of renewable energy. I work in this area, but rather than trot out my own opinions/views, I thought I'd share this report, ultimately from Nature Energy, on the...

    Housing market

More like £33k according to the ONS - so about £2100 after tax. https://www.ons.gov.uk/employmentandlabourmarket/peopleinwork/employmentandemployeetypes/bulletins/averageweeklyearningsingreatbritain/april2023#:~:text=Average%20weekly%20earnings%20were%20estimated,(COVID%2D19)%20pandemic.

    Greatest Guitar Solos.......ever

I think its a brilliant solo. I like to listen first to the rhythm guitar, which is following the basic chord sequence of the song, and then I find that the lead guitar is still following that sequence, but using unusual scales (definitely not pentatonic) and syncopations, which all resolve...

Audiology - Hearing Loud & Clear?

My local Specsavers audiology people are very helpful, removed a lot of wax just recently. My hearing is limited to 8kHz in one ear and 9kHz in the other, but I find it doesn't affect my enjoyment of 'good music played over good audio' at all. I'm quite sensitive to level changes in the 3-5kHz...

    Greatest Guitar Solos.......ever

This is a 'guitar solo' track, albeit on an acoustic. Actually its not just a solo, the lead guitar is adding breaks and little bits of tonal colour right through the song.

    Greatest Guitar Solos.......ever

The phrase 'Guitar solo' seems to prompt lots of picked electric guitar with fast single note runs in pentatonic scales. This shows the other extreme! Although you might say its 'Solo Guitar' than the other way round...

    Meridian 101B preamp

HI Folks I remembered and eventually found an illuminating old pfm thread on the 101. See https://pinkfishmedia.net/forum/threads/meridian-101-pre-amp-questions.33339/ Sadly many of the linked pictures no longer work but there are a couple on the second page, and much interesting information...

    Meridian 101B preamp

A good retrospective article on the 100 series came out in 2005, written by the inimitable and sadly missed Howard Popeck. Lots of good stories and he thinks the 103D was the best power amp! https://www.meridian-audio.info/public/100_series_review_(hi-fi_news_-_sept_2005)%5B460%5D.pdf
