The HiCap seems to be working fine. The connection to the non-Naim power amp is glitchy. I was using a low quality RCA cable with 1/4 inch plug adapters to test. Just ordered a quality RCA to 1/4 inch cable, which hopefully will work better.

We were able to flip up the board without desoldering and without removing the big caps. My buddy heated up the solder on the tants, while I pulled them out.

A friend and I installed the 4 tantalum caps today. Left the big smoothing caps alone for now. Thanks again for all the help.

Thank you, muchtoofast. In your picture, you have turned the module upside down while the wires are still connected to the rest of the HiCap. This obviously makes the soldering job easier. Definitely wanted to check here before trying it. I appreciate the help. And thanks to everyone else who...

I received the replacement caps today. Thanks for all the help on my other thread. The HiCap has one burnt tantalum cap. It's towards the front of the case and away from the big caps. Any and all tips welcome. Two specific questions. 1) How to determine the polarity of the burnt tantalum cap...

Eek is right. I bit the bullet and ordered them, paying a lot but hopefully getting exactly what I need. I wasn't able to find anything on Charcroft, but thanks for looking for me.

I ordered 4, as detailed above. One of the tantalum capacitors is clearly fried. I was very tempted to simply get a $1 replacement and see how it worked.

Thank you all! I ordered the abovementioned service kit containing: 2 x Sic Safco CO39 Smoothing Caps 4 x Tantalum 10uF 35v $182 delivered to the US. Looks like a simple install. I will report back afterwards. Thanks again!

My Naim Hi Cap started smoking the other day. I had explained to it how unhealthy smoking is, nonethelesss... But seriously, I'm looking to buy two replacement capacitors, but they are hard to find. The current ones are labeled Felsic co 38. Any tips on where to get suitable new replacements...

Thanks for all the very helpful (and quick) replies! I found a place in the UK (Sounds Heavenly) that sells 3 meter DIN4 to dual RCA cables for 22 pounds. Might be the simplest thing to try at first.

I lost my Naim amp a while back when the official Naim USA service center closed down, and now I plan to drive a 'normal' amp with my NAC 62 / HiCap combo. I'd like to buy a terminating connector for the Naim cable out from the 62. Then I'd connect female RCA connectors to the terminating...
