A thread to catalogue the eloquence, dignity, diplomacy and wisdom of Boris Johnson

I find that impossible to believe. Corbyn is a man of integrity, on the right side of history in the past and, as each week passes proves, in the present also. A man who works for the poor and under-represented. Johnson is just an evil shit.

Interesting analysis of unelected Carrie's influence in the Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news...fluence-no-10-extends-much-further-than-decor
In a sign of the level of tensions, another former colleague said: “The PM has lost all of his closest, most trusted friends and aides, and the reason is her.” There is one survivor, the Brexit negotiator David Frost, who previously threatened to quit until he was given his own power base in the form of a ministerial position.

The most powerful people in government now are all close to Symonds. They include Simone Finn, the deputy chief of staff, whose 30th birthday party was attended by the Cabinet Office minister, Michael Gove, and Johnson. There is also the prime minister’s adviser Henry Newman, a long-time Gove aide who Symonds reportedly described as one of her “favourite people”. Her other close friend is Meg Powell-Chandler, who manages the Downing Street grid and was also initially tipped for the head of communications role.

Today I was amused by some Tory accusing Keir Starmer of 'playing politics'. He's a politician, FFS, what's he supposed to play, the theremin?

'Sir Keir's move appeared to anger Ms Milling, who tweeted one of the pictures, writing: "When we say Labour are playing political games this is exactly what we mean.

"Today the PM visited a school to see how we are levelling-up opportunity, focusing on people's priorities. Keir Starmer is doing exactly what we said he'd do - playing politics."'

Reminded me of an appearance by the late Tony Banks on QT some years ago, the Tory panel member (a female peer IIRC) sneering at an answer Banks gave, said something to the effect of "that's a typical socialist response." To which Banks just muttered "I'm a typical socialist."

I see that Douglas Ross has been fostering his wish to be seen as an the honest Tory leader for this week's Scottish Parliament election.
https://www.theguardian.com/politic...hould-resign-if-he-breached-ministerial-rules
One of the UK’s most senior Conservatives has broken ranks and called for Boris Johnson to resign if he breached ministerial rules over the refurbishment of a Downing Street flat, amid new claims that undeclared donations have been sought to fund the prime minister’s lavish lifestyle.

Douglas Ross, the leader of the Scottish Conservatives, said on Sunday that Johnson should “of course” quit if he is found to have breached the code by failing to be honest about cash payments from a Conservative donor sought to redecorate his official residence.

His intervention, which caught No 10 by surprise, came after Johnson was accused of successfully obtaining funds for the flat from a second donor, while a third was alleged to have been asked to pay for his one-year-old son’s care.

I'm wondering if Raab or Sunak will take to Carrie's taste in decor.
Or will we have to endure this all over again.

The only PM since 1997 not to spend a penny of tax payers money on decorating the flats at number 10 or 11 was…

Gordon Brown.

Good old Jonathan Meades in his selected writings 1988-2020

“Boris Johnson’s lovable maverick shtick has been to dissemble himself beneath a mantle of suet, to pretend to inarticulacy, to oik about as the People’s Primate, to wear a ten-year-old’s hairdo, to laugh it off – no matter what it is, no matter how grave it may be – and to display charm learned at a charm school with duff tutors,” he writes. “This construct is going on threadbare. If one devotes such energy to a simulacrum of oafishness one becomes an oaf.” Johnson is, he joyously adds, “a blubbery pink peculator” who is said to have enjoyed “an assisted siesta in Shoreditch”.

Beware Douglas Ross Murrayshire’s theatrical deathbed conversion to Johnson scepticism on the eve of Scotland’s poll. Key phrase “if he’s found to have...”. No need for the monkey to distance himself from the organ grinder- we can all see that he’s a vile, talentless and quite thick opportunist in his own right.

^ that’s beautiful.

I've always remembered the news item from a few years ago that wasn't made much of, and that you never see anyone talking about in 2021 (I'm not on social media or other forums so you generally wont see me talking about it either).

There's a recording of a phone call out there where the fat git is discussing the possibility of taking out some kind of hit (a kneecapping or something presumably) on an enemy, I think a journalist. Pure thuggery. The only other time I've heard this sort of thing being discussed seriously is when an acquaintance got involved with some drug dealers moving serious weight.

Back then, as now, it blew over because he's such a god darn character. Would be a scandal with anyone else. Is it the hair?? I really don't know.
