McIntosh C47 definitely worth a try, not your typical offering, very musically engaging, looks great and the remote control is excellent too. Tone controls and input gain are unique to each input and memorised so you can balance up different sources. Has MM/MC phono stage built in, XLR or RCA ins and outs. Very versatile.
I would go for a well designed class A pre personally.
Make sure it is compatible with your power amp.
