Keir Starmer sacks RL-B

And here's the Turkish Police doing it. A force that also trains the US Police.

Further details of this practice by forces worldwide.

Peake has been an active supporter of the Kurds against the Turkish government. But she hadn’t just returned from Turkey and hadn’t just been discussing the Kurds. The insistence that any mention of the Israeli oppression Palestinians be immediately accompanied by a list of other brutal police states beloved of the uk and the US is absurd.

So petty and insulting. A litany here of pissy centrist cliches and resentments. And this is when you’ve won. You lot are never going to get over your few years of “political homelessness” and you’ve learned absolutely nothing from them.

OK add a bit of victimhood. Now get to the point where you're totally unable to admit that this was a stupid thing to re-tweet and that giving it a quick "my bad" withdrawing it and substituting one putting points of agreement wouldn't have been smarter.

Interesting how many Labour supporters are so virulently anti-left, that they prefer to align themselves with right wing politics

No, what is absurd is that RLB retweeted the article without engaging her brain first.

Well played, it's almost as if "centrist" or "sensibles", are terms of endearment.

Indeed. The irony is RLB would likely fit in there far better than Labour.
Agreed. Having been involved with education review under RLB, I have to say she is clearly someone well on top of her brief, and with a deep seated passion for improving education. Her ideas for reforming education are important and urgent for a profession that is facing a crisis. Starmer’s support fo teachers has been guarded at best, as so, to be fair, has Moran’s.

If you could just make Moran leader and RLB Lib Dem education secretary, you’ll have my vote!

That’s not evidence of Maxine Peakse’s original claim. And in any case the cop in the picture is not using his body weight against his victim. Again, where’s the evidence that the Israeli police taught the American police this technique? Cops all over the world have likely used this technique for hundreds of years. Maxine Peake herself withdrew the allegation because it is baseless. You really think it had never occurred to an American cop he could kneel on the neck of someone he was trying to restrain until the Israelis showed him how?

Having a bad day are we?

From what I’ve read RLB is a good sort & on top of her brief but ultimately you cannot re-tweet stuff unless you know the content.

Indeed but she was was always a bit lightweight, at least politically. She climbed to (near) the top of a protest movement but struggled to translate that into meaningful (or memorable) political impact or gravitas. I am sure she will land on her feet though.

`Hello children. It' s a quarter to six. Time today for Magic Roundabout...` `I wonder where Florence is?` ,said Dougal. `I m over here.` ,said Florence. `Hello, Florence.` ,said Dougal. `Hello, Dougal.` ,said Florence. `Boing!`

There's a few here guilty of anti-Labour tropes that's for sure.

"A spokesperson from the socialist group Jewish Voice for Labour said the sacking “takes guilt by association to the nth degree” and that there was “nothing anti-semitic in the interview with Maxine or in Long Bailey’s tweet.”

They added: “The shadow education secretary, who was the left’s champion earlier this year, has been unjustly thrown to the wolves.

“She has fallen foul of the Board of Deputies’ draconian 10 pledges which she signed, alongside Starmer, while standing against him for the party leader’s position.

“All talk of party unity seems to have been thrown to the wind.”

David Rosenberg of the Jewish Socialists’ Group said that her sacking was based on a “very flimsy pretext.”

“US cops’ tactic on Floyd goes back to the ’60s, but today they get training by Israelis, among others,” he noted.

He added that she and Mr Starmer clashed over pupils’ return to schools during the coronavirus pandemic."

The fact is there's many pictures like this of the abuse of Palestinians

The above does more to prove the case than otherwise. Why has Maxine Peake apologised for her comments?

Time to move on

She is not lightweight

It is highly annoying that the Independent have redacted Maxine Peak’s comments regarding the AA report (link), so I don’t know exactly what she said or exactly how she phrased it, and that is clearly important. That said I can’t believe that RLB lost her job by simply re-Tweeting/plugging a household name actress’s interview in a highly respected mainstream newspaper. An actress who is also one of her constituents. RLB’s Twitter account is here. She just doesn’t do daft-Tweets. I don’t agree with her on everything by any stretch, but to my eyes she really did not deserve this. A fundamentally stupid decision by Labour IMHO.

All this on a day where the news should be all about a totally corrupt Tory MP selling a £40m tax-break for £12k in his party’s back pocket makes it even more incomprehensible.

The basic problem is illustrated all to well by the way it has affected what has been posted in this thread.

A large section of the UK media will use any 'issue' they can to attack or undermine any hint of 'left' policies *because it does not suit their wealthly owners and their mates*. AS has become an excellent club they can pick up at the slightest whiff of any comment being interpreted by them as AS.

No matter if you are Kier Starmer, RLB, or a anyone else with an IQ bigger than your shoe size this should be pretty clear by now.

Thus KS was placed in the usual "Damned if you do. Damned if you don't." situation by RBLs comments and the press. He chose the path which would tend to help reduce the length and severity of the shit-storm which could have been predicted from the start. It doesn't *matter* to the UK press if the comment is true or not. It doesn't matter to them if it actually is AS or not. They will spin it into a club. And people will then duly fill space and argument with this - as *in this thread* - rather than deal with other issues. i.e. Helps get BloJo's incompetence and waffling off the agenda for a while.

The longer people argue about this, the more the press barons will smile and keep stoking. Letting others do their work for them.
