I quit cable TV

I'm always so proud to boast about the absence of a TV in my home. And happy to hear other people complain about their addiction.

... monopoly and multiple crap channels.

I'd suggest the same applies the world over, whether for cable, satellite or digital terrestrial providers.

How many Sky subscribers in the UK actively watch more than 5 or 6 channels, do you think?

We now have Lovefilm and Netflix streaming accounts. I'm seriously considering ditching terrestrial TV altogether.

We've gone a different direction - putting the TV in the upstairs spare room. Socialising around a TV is very difficult as the programming is all designed to be the centre of attention - fine when you want it, but it's surprisingly rare that we want to sit around together, not talking to each other.

Television?
It will never catch on I tell you.

vuk.

Those that are saying "Goodbye Virgin", what are you doing in 2014 as an alternative?
(My service is going up by £2.50 so I must be on a more basic deal than you high rollers with the £4.50 increase).

I got off the Sky subscription service when they tried to increase my bill. I don't really miss it, other than the football and F1 that I used to enjoy. I couldn't justify the costs. I wonder if these cost increases are their way of filling the cost void of those lost subscribers?
