What's the PM going to announce?

Precisely. I've Googled to try and find out how much Norman Smith gets paid, but can't find out at all.

An educated guess is he gets a lot more than Corbyn and is definitely part of the financial elite. They really are all in it together.

Jack

"Smith was educated at Oundle School and St Peter's College, Oxford". That is all you need to know. He is part of the privately educated, Oxbridge set that dominate the top of British life. It served him well and now he serves it well.

So Corbyn who was (probably ?) in favour of Brexit wants a softer version than May ? Who was not in favour of Brexit at all.

There are five billionaires who control the media in the UK, other than the BBC. These are the people responsible for spreading non-stop Tory propaganda and political lies in the UK. Unless you are well off, you'd have to be insane to think they have your interests at heart.

1) Lord Rothermere. He lives in France and owns the Mail, Mail on Sunday and the Metro.
2) Rupert Murcock. He lives in America and Australia. He owns the Sun and Sun on Sunday, The Times and The Sunday Times. He is also the main person behind Fox News, BSkyB and News Corp etc.
3) Alexander and Evgeny (son) Lebdev. He is an ex-KGB billionaire who owns The Independent, Independent on Sunday and The Evening Standard. He has just hired George Osborne to be the editor of the paper.
4) Richard Desmond owns the Daily Star, Sunday Star, Daily Express and Sunday Express.
5) David and Frederick Barclay. These brothers live on a private island near Saark. They own The Telegraph, The Spectator and The Business.

How many of these do you think pay a proper amount of tax, as opposed to what HMRC and the Tories let them get away with. This is what Corbyn and Labour are up against.
Jack

Ironic that you probably get a more balanced view from the FT and The Economist.... especially if you read The Guardian as well :)

And yet the blatantly biassed BBC has the top item on it's website - "Jeremy Corbyn vows to 'overturn the rigged system'". I mean could they not just have said "Corbyn is such a loser that he thinks people will be fooled by this nonsense".

I watched some of his speech and the comments afterwards and all I can say if you really want to see bias then you will. Same with anything.

I'm not defending the person but they probably didn't have any choice in their school. As Oxbridge are two of the highest rated universities in the world, I would be glad they had received the best education (see the grammar school thread for the desirability of this). How this works out is a different matter.

Playing the long game, I hope the Tories win, with a very slender majority, screw everything up and go into oblivion. May can retire to the Battle Star. Conversely, if Labour, by some poison chaliced miracle wins, they would be wiped out at the following election.

We now have May's campaign strategy:

"Strong and stable leadership"
"Coalition of chaos"

I suspect at the campaign meeting those were the only two bullet points they came up with and then they went home.

These kind of memes worked for them before when they sold the notion that Labour couldn't be trusted to run the economy, but they were the safe option, that could.

Labour needs to play them at their own game and come up with some good slogans to counter.

They didn't before, which is why they lost.

It's scary isn't it Jack to think that right-wing billionaires with their own elitist agenda control so much of the media...

I wonder how long before socialist becomes a dirty word in UK politics, as it has in the US.

Maybe it is already...

But why Labour has bent over and given May what she wants is more difficult to understand.

Stephen

Even more extraordinary when Dawn Butler stated on PM this afternoon that that the Prine Minister 'rigged the system' by calling for an early election.

I'll come back to the socialist thing later, but for now can you please give the thumbs up to the Huffington Post which today gave us this advice. Any others would be also be appreciated.

Tactical Voting Spreadsheet ‘How To Stop The Tories’ In The General Election Gets Shared Far And Wide
‘It’s definitely doable.’

Any others would be also be appreciated. I'm looking for newspaper that isn't a propaganda arm of the Tory party.

Guardian obvs although it can be a bit "right-on" and, in its online form, tends to be clickbait for lefties. Daily Mirror is a solid left-wing paper with a surprising amount of actual news content for a tabloid. It's the paper I grew up with and I attribute my mum and dad's relatively high level of political awareness to them reading it rather than The S*n. Financial Times is excellent if you want in-depth intelligent analysis without too much editorialising mixed in with the news content. Morning Star for all your far-left news needs (never read it myself). The rest are (increasingly far-)right wing shite.

Drood, I just followed your recommendation and looked at the Mirror. It is awful, just another Daily Mail, full of tittle-tattle celeb crap, advertisments for false teeth, phone videos of people getting run over and killed by drink-drivers or old ladies getting punched by muggers, and football news. It is loaded up with so much adware that I had to click 'back' no less than 14 times to get out of a page. The politics pages are full of photographs of Jeremy Corbyn, whose mug always makes me feel slightly queasy for some reason. Really not good.

I did learn that Kim Karkrashian wore a see-through dress yesterday, and that some guy who predicted Trump's presidency has named the date for the outbreak of WW3, so not completely useless.
