Ron Carter – Patrāo. 1981 Japanese issue.

From the Three-For-A-Tenner box at the weekend. Not sure if it's hitting the spot on first play. Recorded by RVG and has that RVG DI-ed bass sound that doesn't always sound much like a double bass. Though it also has Chet Baker so I'm reserving judgement for now.

Ray Bryant – The Ray Bryant Touch. 1967 US stereo pressing.

Ray doing his funky soul jazz thing live at 'Memory Lane' in LA. Not quite up there with his mid sixties Cadet studio recordings where drummer Freddie Waits brought the groove but still a nice recording.

While I have most of the studio albums on vinyl, listening to the whole in one go makes you realise how sonically interesting the albums are—even their hit singles are a recording tour de force. Pop music in the 1970s was so inventive.
