After reading mdac first listen thread latest posts 501 to 512.
Balance unbalance adaptors etc etc I am more than scared

Suggests a gain of about -1 if 1 input driven and the other grounded. As usual with quad it is never a straightforward design

Unfortunately it doesn't list the turns ratio of the input transformer, but I would assume it is 1:1.

Are you talking about connecting an unbalanced RCA output (from a source) to a balanced/differential XLR input (on an amp), or the other way around?

Wyred4sound states the STP is "fully balanced input to output", so the "conversion" happens at the RCA input plug. No extra components needed. Basically the first variation in this pic, but inside the preamp:
