Tyberg's 3rd symphony

Having just acquired a beautiful Cerzeny tenor tuba (which is on its way from Leipzig as I type), I ought to reiterate that the Third Symphony of Marcel Tyberg is an absolute must-hear for anybody who likes large scale music from the German-speaking world. The one recording, by JoAnn Falletta and the Buffalo PO, is tremendous. And the music has the most moving back story imaginable:

The solo instrument you hear at the beginning is the tenor tuba - like a Wagner tuba, but right-handed and with a trombone mouthpiece. Something which appears in very few repertoire works (Janacek's Sinfonietta and Mahler 7, and I know of no others) and is often, when it is called for, substituted by a similar - but incorrect - instrument... Mahler and Janacek knew the sound of Czech military bands, and knew what they wanted!
