Rega Naia

It depends on the music you are listening to & how benign the load is on the speakers, does the sound markedly change when moving into AB?

So you won't play more than the 3-5 watt SPL its running class A mode then ?

I have no intention of buying one as things stand; especially given lingering concerns about reliability.

That said, it's a brave move by MF/Lichtenegger - especially if it has a transimpedance phono stage. Hardly a budget price, but quite esoteric for an integrated.

As I said to Tenpercenter when Rega came with the NAIA I was almost certainly going to say I don’t want one I’ve got a P10
BUT and a BIG but nothing prepared me for what I heard
I was expecting a P10 on viagra but instead got the “John Holmes” of turntables
Jesus I couldn’t believe it !
It was absolutely nothing like a P10
This was in my humble opinion a turntable of a different class, able to elevate the listener closer to a real “ musical experience of live performance”
Effortless dynamic and very tuneful
I’m currently still running mine in and TP heard it with less than 3 hrs on it
I’m hoping that it improves even further but getting hours in on a single piece in a shop can be difficult
But I am and those so far who have heard it are more than happy with it

Tough crowd, to me all John said was that he had a preconception of how it would sound and with only those first handful of hours on it it is very engaging and on another level to the P10. Not sure I’d expect more from a first impression and that’s not the point to describe in detail or how it compares with various other turntables, which phono stages do it justice etc. I don’t understand the backlash.

If the guys at Rega know what they're doing, you might think that anyone without money to burn is going to listen to a P10 next to a Naia so the Naia is going to have to sound 'better' in the dem room, and immediately so. It's still a lot of money but I guess it gives Rega the chance to compete with the full LP12 at a similar price point.

Because you are hundreds of miles away and I can't afford to buy one anyway. As a hi-fi enthusiast, I am just interested.

But thank you for your well measured and helpful insights. If I need any help in future I'll know who to ask.
I would take a NAIA over any modern LP12 (and I like an LP12) - I’m saving up !!

I'm sure a lot of people would. I'd never spend that much on a record player but I'm curious to know how it differs from the other Rega decks sound wise. I don't like the sound of the RP10 or P10 from what I've heard so wonder if the Naia sounds radically different or just more of the same.

Can you elaborate on the differences?
What does is matter what he thinks? ...I'm sure you'll still go on assuming -like with P8/P10- that it's really no different from that now long discontinued "RP"10 you once owned many years ago.

Meanwhile you re-dress the arm cable on your LP12 and you go on about how the deck was transformed sound wise. But Rega, 10 years later and not 1 single part the same still sounds just like that RP10 you once owned.

Personally I'm looking forward to auditioning Naia for myself sometime in the near future.

Some serious, and unnecessary churlishness going on here.

As a P10 owner, and ex-SME20 owner, I'd love to hear one, although there is effectively zero chance I could afford it. I think MAX's comment that it sounds nothing like a P10 is intriguing.

Oddly, my reaction to having a P9 on home dem many, many years ago (as a then-LP12 owner) was that it was more emotionaly engaging somehow.

I’ve always fancied an SME20 but never likely to stump up for one, just an extraordinary amount of money for a format I barely use.

I may even end up going without a TT for a while & then start off on a different tack. I really like my LP12 but struggle with the concept of spending £2k on upgrades when it will look just the same.

It will be very interesting to see how Rega do with the NAIA.
