Phil Collins no longer able to drum

Where does Brian Peter George St John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno (beats Dido) fit into the scheme of things? Does producing Coldsore and U2 albums (and having Collins as drummer on a number of occasions) out weigh all the great stuff he's done?

As a drummer, I've always be ashamed of being associated with him, he used to win
all the awards in the 80s as worlds best, a drummers drummer. I never heard it myself
and he splashed so much reverb on his 80's output I could never bear to listen..

It irks me when I hear Eric Clapton being described as the worlds best guitarist too. The difference between PC & EC is that EC would probably correct them on that point.
I've never been a fan of 1980s 'Builder's Rock' of which Coming In The Air Tonight has to be at the forefront.
I'm getting to believe that the whole of the 1980s was drowning in reverb, which seems to include everything from chart mainstream stuff to those appalling 1980s hi-fi show type test records; The Blue Nile, Dire Straits, Duritti Column, anything on the Linn label and anything on the Naim label. Unfortunately Antonio Forcione seems to want to continue it ad-infinitum, but I just learn to avoid.
I thought it was me and there was something wrong like I had a suspended spring inside my head, but no, it was just the 80s, thank goodness.

Haven't you seen that TV advert where 3 blokes are driving along in a van singing My Sharona, and the bloke on the right is doing that air-drumming thing?

That's Builder's Rock!

To show that i have a open mind ive just had a listened to Los Endos on youtube, its ok, all a bit Pink Floyd, hes got a big drum kit i'll give him that! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8z1kLUP3ohg

(i'll listen to Brand X later when ive recovered! ;))

Still i like this man better as a drummer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OariZnnn4Z8&feature=related
This freaks me out when i watch it, makes me shiver, god knows what it must do to drummers when they watch it!

Just seen this f**kin awesome, must set the kit up again tonight and frighten the neighbours. wow

I've had the pleasure of hearing Joey Baron play with the Bill Frissell Quartet on the last night of a residency at The Village Vanguard back in 1990. He's a very friendly, nice, humorous guy and that shows in his drumming which is always playful and fun.

Your a Lucky man! It does show your right, every time i watch that clip, its just pure joy that comes shining through.

A fair amount of hip-hop artists, including Ol' Dirty Bastard and Eminem, love a bit of Phil Collins and have sampled his music and beats.

From being an influence on black ghetto music to underpinning the ambience of Eno, Collins has achieved one hell of a lot even if he is a complete c**t.

"influence on black getto music" wtf!? mainstream hip hop sucks, if they're using Collins for samples it definitely does! Hip Hop, where did it go wrong?
