My new car (Warning: Porsche content)

That one has a professionally fitted turbo if I'm not mistaken.

For the more budget conscious, a supercharger doesn't require a huge amount of effort (relatively speaking) and can bring them to a reliable 180-200 bhp, with a pretty linear power delivery. Brings them up to the point where they can have fun with elises, exiles and the like on track - which probably means they'd sit with most stuff on twisties in the real world. Super little drift weapons too in that spec with the front engine/rwd layout - esp with an LSD.

Nice MX5. A few of the lads in our Caterham and Lotus sphere have bought MX5's and either bought with the BBR kit or had it fitted themselves.
Not heard a bad word about them either and a nice little sleeper to boot!!

V6? How about an LS3 V8?

This Evo article on the same car / upgrades can explain better than I. The video is quite good, MX5 on track from 4:30.

From the article; "The conversion itself consists of a bespoke Garrett GT25 turbo, a new stainless steel manifold and downpipe (a full exhaust with tubular manifolds is also available), a front-mounted aluminium intercooler, an upgraded intake, all sorts of neat details like Teflon-coated oil and water lines, and an uprated Exedy clutch."

Alan, I was looking at fitting an MP62 SC to my MK1 (from a Mini) but I've already put too much money into it and just fancied something newer with a convertible hard top. The BBR work is second to none.

@kennyh Kenny, I've got 2 Lotus' and another MX5 - they're somewhat cousins in spirit and I've noticed the same pattern among my owner friends too :)

Nice one Anthony, been Lotus and Caterham for as long as I can remember now. Is that V6 in your avatar yours?

@kennyh Yes, Sport 380

Yes Anthony it's a Cup car in Toxic green. Love that S1 too and no better a man to build your motor than DVA. Prices are rampant for special Lotus at present.

Ah lovely. I haven't driven an S2 cup yet, I hear it's amazing. The v6 does feel a bit different to the S1/S2 in handling terms, not better or worse just not the same. S1 engine went bang a week after I bought her so Dave took her in and did a fine job. She lives in the Alps now, with the intention of me popping over there for drives every so often but the reality of life has made that a bit trickier than I hoped.

Thanks Anthony, yes the Cup is a sublime little car. Like a little mini Group c people say. Love it and prices are solid with all the latest price hikes Lotus have had. However the V6 you have is on the cards for me, love them. I bet the DVA on Alpine roads is fabulous, a true petrolheads dream.

Recently traded this in too for another Brit sportscar......now wondering if it was a mistake

Kenny, I think you made a mistake :p That is stunning. I did some track work in a humble Roadsport and that was incredible in itself. What are the specs? And what's the new brit car! Tease!

Edit: R500!?!

Thanks Anthony, appreciated. I guess you know what it is then. Basically the engine was the BTCC motor from the 1990's Vauxhall Touring cars. The car held the world record for 0-60 and 0-100-0 briefly in the 90's before getting zapped by the Mclaren F1.

Only sold it as it had 5000 miles on the clock and had become a collectors item. Scared stiff the motor would pop and in all honesty the car was awful on the road, nowhere near as nice as a modern R400. I reluctantly thought it was time to let it go. I guess it won't see many more miles in its life as a car collector snapped it up.

Oh my. That sounds bonkers, and a handful. Not easy to get many miles in one of those, especially if you're concerned about the engine. Definitely the most fun I've had is in a Caterham..one day. I had a go in the Ultima GTR world record holder 0-100-0 car and it was that day it dawned on me there was such a thing as too fast!

Love the Nautilus blue - very hard to get decent pics, but that looks great.

K series / 200 bhp ??

You must definitely be a subscriber to the If you're not living' on the edge/you're takin' up too much space thing Anthony :)

Hi Alan!!The grenade thing is true of some K's without doubt. However I think Dave's motors are well proven and easily good for a reliable 200bhp. The VHPD engines probably had less blow ups than standard 1.4k's due to the "insurance" bits fitted to them.

Yes Dave's work is second to none and the engine has had zero problems in five years of thrashing around the Alps etc with the forged pistons etc. I bought it as a PTP170 which, with no modded internals was had 4 cracked pistons when Dave opened her up. I have had a lot of problems mind with the throttle cable snapping due to poor angle of fitment which I had remedied in France at Bauden Racing, where she lives now. 50 Euros a month to keep her looked after in doors by a Lotus specialist...Bargain!

Sounds like a great deal re. the Lotus specialist. You'd pay more than that to rent a lock up!!! Is your DVA on Jenvey throttle bodies or the PTP system Anthony?

Ah just force of habit - can't help taking a little swipe at anybody 'still' running a K :)

I don't know what it's like over your side of the water but - without exception - every single K series Elise that our lot tracked regularly went down the blown head-gasket route. (That includes btw my own, plus a Sport 160 that I was paxing in at Spa once. That was a worrisome drive back - but it made it :) ) Fix of choice on the local ones - not the 160 you'll be relieved to hear - is the Honda K20 nowadays.
