Anyone using JOB amplifiers in and around London? Any feedback regarding the same and comparisons if done, would be great..

I bought a JOB amplifier ,initially I thought it sounded great, but eventually not so good , I sold it on. Whilst a lot more expensive I found the Naim Supernait 2 to sound excellent, however no better than my 20 year old unknown amplifier, whereby I have the advantage of a electronics expert friend able to update it. I have tried many amplifiers but can not find a better one.

I looked Into getting the Job 225 because of all the excellent feedback, but was worried that If I didn't like It, Id have to sell It at a big loss because It's not a very well known manufacturer.

In the end, I got a Quad 306 with a Dada service/upgrade kit. Just waiting for my dirt cheap Little Bear preamps to arrive before I can try It (Little Bear P5-1 version 1.3 and MC2)

This is a really great amp that deserve some care to give the best result. I've come from naim amp to avondale and then the job amp and it's far superior, simply stunning.
Great dynamic and super detail retrieving, you can miss this amp if something is wrong on the upstream chain. this amp shows everything (cable change, preamp shortcoming,...)
Give it a decent power cable, fuse, vibration control, and it really shines. One of my best purchase in hifi.
If i had to change it, it will be for their big brother the JOB 250.

What source and preamp were you using?

Source:Sony XA5400ES SACD/CD player into Sony DA5400ES AVR using its pre-out into Job amp. Sony DA5400ES has never been fully reviewed, reviewers only concerned with HT performance, line stage, MM phono & FM tuner are all absolutely first class, as good as any separates IMO. I tried to get the proper technical spec. for the Job 225, but they will not divulge it, I believe it uses mos-fets and I prefer bi-polars. why quote a damping factor at 1kHz of 200, no bass at ikHz, damping factor should be specified at 40hz

I have one and think it superb.
It is clear without being harsh with firm non-boomy bass.
One of the best amps I have heard at any price. I have the preamp too and it has a habit of blowing a fuse when plugged in. It has no off switch and has never blown a fuse in use, so I guess the power surge may be a bit much in the UK if the mains is near max tolerance.
The amp has very high gain so IME preamps other than the Job end up being used in the first little bit of the volume control travel.

Are these made by Goldmund?

Job was a small specialist pro company which Goldmund bought about 25 years ago in order to obtain their patent amp design.
Since then all new Goldmund amps have been based on this circuit.
Job continues as a wholly owned subsidiary and is based in the Goldmund factory.
The 225 circuit board looks like it is common to the least expensive Goldmund amp but in a much cheaper case with a simpler power supply.

I had the 225 and had a similar experience to Disbeliever. Tonally it was nice, it was quite inoffensive, but ultimately I felt it lacked the clarity and dynamics of some other amps.

what integrated did you replace them with and how does the sound of new component compare with Job 225 combo.

I cannot make fair comparisons, as I sold my speakers and my house at the same time. So right now I'm listening to another system in another room.

Thanks for that F1.
