Not a name known to many but Jimmy Hastings died this week. For fans of the Canterbury scene he was best known for playing on many of the 1970’s Caravan albums, and he was in the Camel/Caravan band called Mirage that I saw in Bristol in December 1994. Brother of Pye Hastings.
Jimmy was also known as a jazz saxophonist too. RIP.

I didn't become aware of Jimmy Hastings through Caravan, but through his lovely playing on Chris Squire's "Fish Out Of Water".

There was a story related by Squire about Jimmy; he had mentioned beating the breathalysers of the time using circular breathing techniques!

RIP.
