How hot does your Naim NAP 250/2 run?

Does this need clarifying? All the early Naim equipment comes in black cases and as I understand it are sensitive to speaker cable type and length. I have to admit I'm totally ignorant about the newer ranges as my Naim equipment all dates from the 70's.
Yes, chrome bumper and olive can be sensitive to speaker cables. Late 90s saw all-black cases and they aren’t sensitive to speakers cables, i.e. Kimber, Nordost etc are fine.

Interesting thread. I experienced exactly the same with my NAP200, however my NAP250.2 is currently being assessed by Naim. When it emitted an alarming 'shriek' at switch on it got 'alarmingly hot' - the heat was restricted to the right hand side of the amp.

Things are not going well at all, in fact, there is a suspicion that my speakers have been 'blown' as well, the units are currently being checked by Audio T. The good news is that they can obtain the drivers for them (Naim Arivas).

Hoping that Naim get a move on with their assessment.

:(

No it's the 250.2 which is currently in assessment. Beginning to get withdrawal symptoms, the HiFi has been out of action for nearly a month.

Thats good news if Naim or dealers have stock of spare units to support at least some of their loudspeaker customers.
Maybe its a rare opportunity, as I believe the Ariva wasn't a mega seller making stock units more likely.

What did you find the gains were going from 200 to 250?
Well most things really. What surprised me was the lower 'noise floor' so instruments appear playing in their own 'space'.

Also bass notes are more clearly defined with no sense of fuzziness.

Missing the amp lots, turning 70 next year this is likely to be my 'forever system'

:(

That’s interesting, I have gone back to the NAP200 and im not really missing the NAP 250/2 that much, but to be honest it wasn’t in place that long. The NAP200 has slightly more clarity and space, but is not as controlled in the bass and higher frequencies are a bit harder.

I suspect that the NAP250/2 will be a lot better once it’s serviced, can’t wait to find out.

Must be honest if my ears are still working when I reach 70 I will be thankful and amazed all at the same time. ;):)

I know of someone with a NAP250DR which was upgraded and serviced 5 years ago by Naim HQ. The amplifier went off sound-wise recently and subsequent investigation by a non-official Naim specialist found 3 of the 4 main capacitors in poor condition, rattling. Maybe a bad batch, or bad caps, or bad luck! It was recapped with high quality Mundorf Capacitors and all was well again.
