Garden birds

Ye Gods, that mistle thrush was early - the chick is 2-3 weeks old (not long out of the nest and they are around 14 days in it), incubation will be something like 14-15 days - the pair will have been making a start at building a nest late February. They are early nesters, but even so.
That said, it is a while since I have heard one here, which, hopefully means a male will be doing circuits of the garden tomorrow morning :)

They have nested in the garden here, but one crow species or another had the eggs - one of the penalties for nesting early when there is little leaf cover, and nesting very high, towards the top of some tree or other, close to the ends of suitable branches.

I saw the first blackbird carrying smal food items here, 3 days ago, just for comparison.
