Totally disagree. It depends entirely upon the type of speaker, room environment, shape and size and not least, how wide a soundstage you want.

Simplistically, the best room shape is rectangular, preferably with irregularities like crooks and nannies to break reflections. Square-ish rooms, unless very large, are tricky, and usually proscribe electrostatics , rear-facing ports and some other ported speakers as well as a great many large floor-standers. Ceiling height is also a factor.
 
it is impossible to make generalisations , you have to experiment , as far as is possible with speaker and listener placement.
Loudspeakers with boundary filters obviously increase your placement options.
Use acoustic measurement to compare options.
