Balanced cable to single-ended

Silly question: I've got a good quality balanced cable terminated at one end with XLR and at the other with a good phono plug.
Don't need the XLR plug anymore. Can I solder both signal cable strands to one pin at the phono or would that create unwanted capacitance?

Assuming the cable is wired correctly for balanced to unbalanced at present, pins 1 (ground) and 3 (cold) should both be connected to the ground at the RCA connector and XLR pin 2 (hot) should be connected to the centre pin of the RCA. So if you're just turning it into an RCA-RCA lead, I'd replicate that at the new connector.
