@stony I haven’t had time to try anything else yet but with the help and advice here, I'm confident on fixing it. It's more like a little project to get it working again.

@Dowser Just the laser unit. I’ll open it up again to check the rail. It’s metal but will have a good look under a magnifier.

They normally run on a rod on one side, the other side rides on either a black or white plastic piece molded into the metal chassis, and these can crack...sorry, cannot remember specific detail on the 240 mech.
