How would you describe the Rega sound?

Right. It's irritating. The (apparent?) neutrality is a good thing with NVA. My old Exposure amp (still used for phono) did have a certain house sound, but of a kind that I didn't notice while the music was playing, a benign one. To me, it wasn't a long step to NVA, and it was almost a relief to...

How would you describe the Rega sound?

I've always heard good things about their loudspeakers, which seem to be well liked also by some of those who don't like their electronics. My experience is with the original Planet CD player and the last version of the Elex integrated (from the 90s); I have sold both. I agree with a lot of...

    Exposure X and speakers

I used a Super XV (more powerful than XV and X) with Epos ES11 for a number of years, and that combination worked reasonably well. Nothing wrong with tonality and stuff, but a somewhat faster speaker would probably have been even better. Royd (no longer in business), Rega and Neat are often...

    Battery powered DAC?

Well, if you're concerned about car batteries of the standard type, us one which can't possibly leak, then. I've used the Altmann DAC for several years with a gel battery. Some people run this DAC on a Paul Hynes power supply instead, which is supposed to sound slightly better.

What is your current system? part III

They are fine, thank you. No "irritation factor". There are a number of reports on the web, and many of them (including a recent review at 6mooons.com) say that these headphones need a lot of current to sound their best -- valves or balanced, or something. One of the more popular headphone amps...

    Your amp history...

Some Luxman integrated ("L-1"?). Developed some fault they didn't find. Replaced with: Rega Elex integrated. Replaced with: Exposure Super XV integrated. Which now functions as a phono amp with: NVA P90/A80s. The Elex went into a bedroom system, before it was replaced there with: Roksan Caspian...

What is your current system? part III

Sorry, I meant 20 feet, not inches. I can sit by my computer, lie on the couch -- and sit out on the balcony.

What is your current system? part II

Interesting case (pun attempted). Did you put your hand on top of the bottom A80 when they were stacked? I did, and separated mine immediately. Not that it was directly hot, but I didn't like the idea of the warmth spreading from a small spot to the entire surface.

    Recapping Epos ES11

I haven't said I'm going to do it yet, only that I'm thinking of it ;). Not break the old cap by overheating its wire? There's a thread here from November 2006, and a couple of earlier threads on diy.com, partly involving Oliver :). Reports there and elsewhere seem to indicate that both the...

    Recapping Epos ES11

47R. I've checked the colour code, and 47 is what others say, too. Not much knowledge in electronics here. In fact, I haven't soldered before either, so I'm a bit reluctant... There are some other things I would have liked to do as well, so I feel I should try to start... (I had thought of...

    Recapping Epos ES11

I'm thinking of replacing the capacitors in my ES11s with Mundorfs (most likely plain Supreme). The capacitor will then have a lower resistance than the stock one, so has anyone here replaced the resistor as well, and with what value? The old one is 47 ohms.
