Personally I think a sterile and flat sound is the lack of bass pressure in a room ,if your sat in a null you are basically screwed. Moving seating area could be the only option to get it to work. I found the equilateral triangle with speakers facing the sitting area to work best.
I own these speakers and they are certainly not bright! I have used them with croft, naim, rega and settled on a Leema elements intergrated which is what I would consider a perfect match. Amazed how cheap these amps go for i paid £400 for mine with a RRP of £1700. I will never sell it and maybe...
Crackling speaker channels could be bulging capacitors which audiolab are known for unfortunately. Find out if opening the unit voids the warranty, if it does not a visual inspection could identify the problem which audiovisual would need to rectify.
As mentioned above audiolab are quite good...
I had a khadas tone board and that sounded identical to the mdac as far as I can remember. I have settled on topping dx3 pro, sounds great with HD800 and a Lcd 2 closed.
I do believe all the excellent measuring chi fi dacs have contributed to the reason why the mdac 2 project has taken so long...
Had the 7 a few times. Jaw dropping at first listen, very wide sound stage. But there was something always not quite right for me. I believe it did not control the bass very well which made it sound a bit bright.
