What is the goofiest audiophile superstition you've ever heard?

It sometimes is more difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff, until we take a closer look. There are those cases, however, that do not merit observation even on the simple grounds of fairness. I am actually shocked at times reading the proposed product description of 'telepathic...

At home with the PS Audio PerfectWave P10

It is interesting to me how the new Power Plants operate differently from the older models. To tell the truth, I prefer my old P300 over the Power Premier model that I also owned. Knowing this fundamental difference tells me why it might be so. No doubt the earlier models were not efficient, and...

    Hearing OK?

JTC, What a valid point that you raise. find that dynamics in a certain midrange area actually do cause some kind of distortion at that moment. It has to be quite loud, but non the less, it is there. And of course, the hearing test at the audiologist will only serve for a limited frequency...

    Hearing OK?

Must be an American thing. Nobody 'hear' wants even talk about it. I visited a 66 year old audiophile recently that said his hearing was just like it was when he was a kid. I want to ask if he has been tested but there is a certain kind of false pride that becomes bruised at even the...

    Hearing OK?

THANK YOU! We all experts tends to have a denial when it comes to age related decrease in hearing. I just had my hearing tested, and sure enough, it is NOT like it was at 17. I am lucky that it is as good as it is, but tone controls might not be such a bad thing these days.

Ideas for best way to repair scratched cd's please?

The idea of polishing an OPTICAL disc brings me to cringe. My observations about such an attempt is that the polishing is only as good as the medium used to polish it. A product actually designed for the job must be be more appropriate than one normally used for other intentions. Then there is...

Electrical pops getting through my ISOTEK

Don't know if this product uses an MOV(metal oxide resistor), but if it does, they finally give up the ghost after taking a certain number of spikes, large or small. If that's true in this case, a tech would have little trouble replacing the device.

How not to package a speaker

Nothing new about Fleabay, and no matter what side of the pond you are on, people just don't get proper packing. They it's like gift wrapping. If only that were true. No doubt we all got horror stories about freight in general. One of mine involved cracking a Velodyne subwoofer in half. Just...

    Anyone using mains filters/transformers/regenerators?

Positioned properly, an Alpaca can positively influence the sound of an audio system.

    Anyone using mains filters/transformers/regenerators?

NZ $10K is just for shipping! Just joking, but no doubt the beast is heavy. I think PS Audio has scraped some of the problems clean that haunted the PPP. I would be very interested in hearing about your experience with the P10, in spite of the fact that I still love that little P300.

    Anyone using mains filters/transformers/regenerators?

I agree with the DC idea so much so that I use battery equipment wherever possible.

    Upgrade suggestions

I get the upgrade bug as well sometimes. I first have to ask what it is that I am trying to accomplish. Usually, I end up at one end or the other the system, i.e. source or speakers. In your case, it sounds as though some others here have the advice of going with a new amp. Given their...

    Anyone using mains filters/transformers/regenerators?

Wow, Everywhere on earth has a different idea as how AC power should be applied. I used to assume that it all was very similar. Couldn't be more wrong. The more I read about rings, and other differences, the more I can see why each situation could be so different from the last. Each time that I...

    Anyone using mains filters/transformers/regenerators?

As many of you, I have used a variety of products over the years for my power. Of course, there varying amounts of difference(if any) to each approach and it's synergy with the system or problem. Overall, I am also a fan of PS Audio products, sans the PPP which had the problems mentioned...

    T-Amps

I have recently acquired a PS Audio P300, my favorite model amongst the bunch. It hadn't occurred to me to try it with my little Muse. So then, that is one of the reasons that I appreciate this forum so much, and especially since the ideas given here are mostly from across the pond. It can get...
