TP improved on my Avondaled 250. But moved on since. Still own (most of) my 1989 LP12 and 1992 EAR phono.

For me too Tisbury, Rega, Avondale, Q Acoustics etc... If you want real value for money look for T-amps. A bit more exotic but very good vfm are Abrahamsen and Lab12.

Used to own LFD. Very transparent high, great bass, but ultimately lacking in power. Needs careful matching.

As car batteries are built to give short burst of extremely high energy I suppose a deep cycle battery is a better option. They are designed to give constant low(ish) power, which is better suited for hifi purposes. I have used one of those with a chip amp and the result was outstanding.

As to sound quality: I replaced the CCA wall plug with a 1A powerbank - takes away alot of nastyness, and then use toslink to DAC.
