    Superfi gone

On the one hand I feel sorry for the people who will loose their jobs. On the other hand not buying new stuff is so much better for our environment and our suffering planet. The fanatic pursue of economic growth has to stop if we want our children to have a future. So I'd go for the once in a...

which HiFi companies make simple, good value products?

For me too Tisbury, Rega, Avondale, Q Acoustics etc... If you want real value for money look for T-amps. A bit more exotic but very good vfm are Abrahamsen and Lab12.

What have you owned that reviewers loved but you hated?

Long time ago Cyrus 2. Rave reviews but never managed to get it singing. PSX didn't help. Chinese headphone amp (don't even remember the brand) More recent LFD LE. It managed to miss out on complete parts of a recording, probably because of unsufficient power. I opened it up to look for obvious...

Is reducing mains voltage a sensible idea?

I heard that there are audible benefits in reducing mains voltage to 225 volts. Any opinions ? And if it were a good idea, how to make it work without breaking the bank?

    Fully Balanced Pre-Amp? Recs?

I took a gamble in buying an Abrahamsen V3.0 up online. Easily bettered my previous Pardo, Naim, Avondale pre amps at a (me thinks) silly price. Balanced out for poweramp(s) and balanced CD in.

Which Hi-end intergrated Amplifier - Low depreciation

Used to own LFD. Very transparent high, great bass, but ultimately lacking in power. Needs careful matching.

    Ethernet or Wi Fi

Ethernet is always to be preferred as high frequency radiation is a known cause of health issues in the long run. So no WiFi in my home, nor DECT, bluethooth etc...

    Returning to Vinyl

I left vinyl briefly in the eighties, but returned in 1989 with the acquisition of an 'all in' LP12 for 600 £. I kept buying new LPs, even when they became practically impossible to find. Recently I started adding my collection on discogs. Just because I needed a list. I tended to buy the same...

You're not a diseased audiophile, until....

Luckily the disease is only mildly contagious. Hifi shops, -magazines and forums increase the symptoms however. But most people are immune. People who suffer from this disease can live long with it. Even longer then average, because their car has broken down more often than not and they keep...

    Mytek Brooklyn DAC

As car batteries are built to give short burst of extremely high energy I suppose a deep cycle battery is a better option. They are designed to give constant low(ish) power, which is better suited for hifi purposes. I have used one of those with a chip amp and the result was outstanding.

Windows Laptop to Chromecast Audio. How?

As to sound quality: I replaced the CCA wall plug with a 1A powerbank - takes away alot of nastyness, and then use toslink to DAC.
