Zorn Recs

Next stop: The Big Gundown. ( which was where I began!)

The Sonny Clark Memorial Quartet, VOODOO (Black Saint).

In a nut shell: Zorn plays bebop/hard bop via the tunes of Sonny Clark, and blows the neoclassicists away.

Also try News for Lu Lu (Hat Hut).

Although you have to be prepared to pay up to £40 for a secondhand copy (it's long out of print).

Huh??? I am constantly surprised at the "treasures" that lurk within my music collection.

I once picked up for a song an obscure album on Fontana called "Jazz in Britain" from the seventies, and I then discovered that it is worth several hundred quid from internet dealers!

The problem with HatHut is that so much of their really good stuff is out of print. Hopefully all of it will get a Hatology reissue eventually.

did have tickets but then had to exchange as i had a work commitment and my son, who was going with me, had a uni exam. now going to see the punk funk allstars instead - sounds like decoding society mixed with defunct from the line up, which should be pretty fine. would have loved to see the zorn but such is life. have to make sure i catch him on his next visit.
