A crappy local radio station had an interesting (though not particularly original) idea. Yesterday they played a song by a band, followed by a song by the lead singer of that band as a solo artist. Examples I heard on my way home:

Eagles - The Long Run / Don Henley - Heart of the Matter
Genesis - Abacab / Phil Collins - In the Air Tonight
Fleetwood Mac - Rhiannon / Stevie Nicks - Edge of Seventeen

So, like I said, a pretty dismal AOR execution of a potentially nice idea. I immediately started coming up with songs that I would pair up if I was the dj... a couple of them:

It Bites - Cold, Tired and Hungry / Francis Dunnery - The Johnny Podell Song
10,000 Maniacs - Like the Weather / Natalie Merchant - Gulf of Araby
The Jam - Town Called Malice / Paul Weller - Back in the Fire

I'm sure you guys can come up with some better/more arcane illustrations of the concept. What say you?

The Teardrop Explodes - Sleeping Gas/Julian Cope - World Shut Your Mouth
Orange Juice - In A Nutshell/Edwyn Collins - Hope And Despair
The Supremes - The Happening/Diana Ross - Upside Down

Cheers

Rich
