I’ve been watching way more YouTube than TV of late. Once you learn to completely avoid anything political and just to focus on the hobby/info channels it really is superb. I don’t know why it has taken me so long to figure this out, start subscribing etc. My current subscription list is:

Andertons (music hardware)
That Pedal Show (FX pedals)
JHS Pedals (FX pedals)
Dave’s World Of Fun Stuff (guitar repair)
Retro Man Cave (vintage computing)

i just had a quick look. i'd have thought his annoying/loud personality would be the main point of popularity confusion.

I can't remember where I read it, but someone nailed the problem with Doug DeMuro -- he has the air of a man who would unselfconsciously start a conversation at the urinals instead of waiting until everyone was safely back at the sinks.
 
Just added this guy to my list. Very clear descriptions of fault finding and how items work. So far he’s yet to say ‘aluminum’ which makes him a winner in my book!
