All budget stuff from me I'm afraid;
1988 - Technics Midi XE5millionandthirtyohthreemijig - my first foray into CD, amazed at the lack of surface noise, probably didn't sound much cop though
1989 - Marantz CD40 - £199 I think from Richers, it was ok I think
1990 - Rotel RCD-855 - Brilliant machine, sumptuous 16x4 SQ
1993 - Pioneer PD-S801 - Chose this over it's sparring partner the Rotel 965, loved it. Still have it and it hasn't missed a beat, ever
2003 - Arcam CD73 - Well made and silver was 'in' then, no appreciable difference I could tell. Put it away in the garage with the Pioneer after about 5 years when I took a hifi sabatical. Got them both out again after 3 years non-use and the Arcam failed to power up, the Pioneer just lit up and was ready to go. Bit pissed off when I realised the CD73 was chinese made though, sold it as faulty on fleabay
2011 - Rega Apollo - Lovely machine, loved the theatre of the top loading, had a few initial glitches with the software but then it settled down and played without fault, can't say the SQ was any big step up from the Arcam and Pioneer though
Currently have an Arcam Solo for CD replay and other duties which is a good machine, but am thinking about trading in for a dedicated player again, only really got the Solo for its 'all-in-one' capability but am thinking of getting a good used machine, a classic, maybe a bit more exotic than I'm used to.
