Amstrad IC2000 II (ugh! Though loved it as a kid!).
Tatty Quad 22, one Quad II in good nick, and a ‘repro’ Quad II, added/made by my Grandfather when stereo came on the scene. My first taste of true hifi.
Arcam Alpha 3.
Pioneer A-300R.
A variety of DIY Tripath and chip amps.
Ground-up Quad II rebuilds - Very much miss this pair! A lot of effort but well worth it.
Dynaco ST70 built entirely from new parts, with original output transformers. Regret selling it!
Quad 34 / 606.
More Quad IIs.
Sony TA-F6B (courtesy of
@Tony L. Loved this amp, but despite my best efforts and some very clever folk over at diyaudio.com that kept it going for a while, that pesky smps kept breaking down.)
DIY Nap 180(ish) from Chinese pcbs. Surprisingly good sound!
Naim Nac 72/Nap 140.
Naim Nac 12/Nap 160.
Yamaha A-S2100. Great, loved those meters, but extremely heavy/bulky and I had trouble with clicking psu relay. Didn’t sound quite as good as… :
Back to the Quad 34 / 606.
Rod Elliot P3A amp. Pretty good, but ended up preferring the Quad 606.
Naim Supernait 2. Wasn’t too keen, so sold on pretty quick.
Back to the Quad 34 / 606. Can just relax into this vombo - gets the midrange just right.
A variety of Quad 33 and 303s. Another favourite combo, especially when properly serviced. Think the 303 is perhaps the greatest used audio bargain on the market.
Leak Stereo 20 (left to me by my Uncle. Took me almost two years to rebuild it, but was very rewarding. Love it!).
Benchmark AHB2 (may have found my ‘perfect’ amp at last. Combines the treble and midrange fluidity/naturalness of the Leak Stereo 20, with a Naim-like bass. One to use in the hotter months when the Stereo 20 is putting out too much heat. Love it!).
And….. Quad IIs again! Or the start of a ‘from scratch’ pair. Have a pair of tatty original chassis, new circuit boards from Quad Musikwiedergabe in Germany, Takman resistors, plus a couple of new output transformers from Majestic. Fancy building a new pair in time for my 50th next year!
