Your amp history...

...I was with you in sympathy and thought when you were speaking about cash, and cost of Naim gear.

Both in terms of A) and A) (did you mean B?)

... but a 211 valve amp ??

Hardly a budget alternative ?

Sorry I couldn't get past A) but I do remember one audition when the dealer could not get loads of Naim boxes to sing properly. Something was basically wrong: like out of phase. I fully checked over the cables when left alone with it but neither the dealer nor I could get to the bottom of it. A shame so much costly kit couldn't shine. I do remember on another occasion getting some nice deep dark sounds using Naim CD and amps with Epos ES14s.

As for the SETs, probably worth the same as the very basic Naim pre power combo or less than a Supernait. Had them about twelve years. They were the result of several trade ins and not one big outlay. Have kept them for sentimental rather than practical reasons although useful as a reference. All that white heat blazing away, you can't just leave em to tick over for any length of time.
For most listening I'm happy with your average dependable cheap as chips Japanese 50 watt transistor job.

Kenwood KA 3020SE :-cracking first amp
Densen Beat :- fast but rather grey sound (I was using very revealing speakers)
Musical Fidelity B1 :- This was my intro into ss class a sound, magical midband!
Audiolab 8000a :- tight and punchy enjoyed this
Audiolab 8000q and p :- pre and power british version before they went Chinese, clean but OMG they just sounded so bland and lifeless had to move on!
Sony V-fet integrated amp :- really good sound clean but full of drive and energy, what a shame one of the channels stopped working after a month.......next
Jungson JA88D :- my current amp fantastic value, really made my speakers sing and still has that magical midband of ss class a amps but more power than most!

Marantz PM35 (stolen)
Audio Research VT100 Mk1, and then Mk2 (Still in use)
Marantz MA500 monoblocks (5 of 'em) in HT system, then replaced by
Rotel RB-1080 and RSX-1055

I suppose it is a symptom of the lack of money in the UK, but it strikes me that there is a lot of mediocre stuff (hallo Naim!) and a distinct lack of some truly world class gear...how about Jadis/ Shindo Labs/Air Tight/ yamamoto. Much of the really classy gear is absent .And this stuff really goes well beyond the average. It is not just expensive show -off gear. Far from it.
Pity, it is mainly down to a shortage of money but also a blinkered UK press (Naim and Linn, Naim and Linn, etc etc etc.)Disappointing because the whole forum can sometimes suffer from this slightly blinkered 'not invented here' attitude. And to think, UK stuff used to lead the world. Not these days!

What a fascinating thread many of us have kept a few companies going and entertained ourselves in the process.

Here we go:-

Sansui au101

Nad 3030

Nytech 252xd11

Townshend 600c/Electrocompaniet 25w "the two chanel audio power amplifier"

Cyrus2/psx

Linn kairn/4 Ion systems ma400 power amps

Icon audio stereo 40mk111 (to try valves) loved em so now

Icon audio ps3/mb 845's many valves to roll including
Psvane, Full music Black treasure, nos mullard philips etc

I have no desire to change anything now and will stick to the 845's.

Regrets, selling the electro and a pair of Mission 770, they worked so well together.

Very few amps here because I rarely change my gear.

A Realistic kit amp when I was a kid
Another Realistic - an STA77L Receiver which was a cast-off from my Dad
Audiolab 8000a which was the first amp I ever chose. Still using it.
Another Audiolab 8000a. Away being repaired + modded, but after 7 months of excuses it seems unlikely I'll ever see it again.
AVI Labs pre + power. I doubt I'll ever replace these in my main system.
Leak Stereo 20. Inherited from my Grandfather and sounding better than I ever thought it would.

I still have all of these (apart from the 2nd Audiolab), and still use them all apart from the Realistic stuff.

Latest play thing is a fully restored Pioneer M-22 amplifier (proper class-A), which is driven by a complementary C-21 preamplifier. Wonderful, if somewhat hot-running.
