Why CDs sound great

That's really funny; exactly what he pokes fun at 'audiophiles' for is the reason he has been ridiculed on photo forums for years. He buys every piece of camera equipment going, often producing spurious comparisons and opinions.

His own photos are pretty much surpassed in the photo a day forum here and on the 'wam and then aks people to make paypal donations.

You can fool some of the people some of the time.

I must admit it all makes me smile. I've been playing drums in bands for over 30 years and still set up and feel good when a room has good acoustics and cringe when my drums sound like tin cans in others. That is the nature of sound. Its still the same drum kit wherever I play it and its still a great kit to record. By the way I love playing with hi fi and yes I hate music from crappy little speakers. My ideal hi fi would have to be housed in a huge room, played loud using material that wasn't over compressed or had the normal CDsheen added to it. It ain't going to happen is it? :-(

Ken Rockwell is well known as a professional, and sometimes amusing),troll in photography circles. People (real men, clearly) had to build their own amplifiers and speakers in the 50s and 60s to get good sound? Bullshit.

That being said, anyone who would self-identify as an audiophile is an irredeemable ****.

The whole thing smacks of self-flagellation to me. If that's what turns him on...

The term audiophile has been given negative connotations by the audiophobe consumer saviour brigade and the Lifestyle Decor Crew making silk purses out of sows' ears in a typical UK new-build with its 1.5 parking spaces, partition walls and insufficient space to swing a cat in never mind accommodate decent hi-fi...

In France, for example, where audio is not stigmatised in the way that it is here, the term is completely neutral one that doesn't even suggest that the equipment is more important than the music. It simply defines someone who likes listening to music via decent kit. There is at least one audio forum and one manufacturer in France that carries the word audiophile in their name.

That simply could not happen here.
