Which wire? (Really basic question from Non-DIYer)

Johnny Blue

I made it to 'Member'!
I've got some Tyco tags to enable me to join the pins on Naim motherboard pre-amps (the result of an earlier post on the DIY forum), however, such was my enthusiasm for getting these parts in (I'd only been thinking of doing it for about 6 months!) that I forgot to get the blimmin' wire to connect them. Doh!

What's the usual stuff that you Big Boys use to do this kind of thing? (Farnell's has 5,807 single wires listed!). Help!

The inner cores from a bit of mains lead will do the job splendidly.

What's required is a very ordinary piece of wire - nothing OFC or technoflash.

The sound of relatively short lengths of hookup wire carrying signal in a box is inaudible in my experience. Teflon insulation is superior for RF and metre long interconnects, so its surely no worse for audio. Try here for Teflon. Polyethylene also sounds better than typical PVC insulation in a long interconnect.

Thick gauge for power conductors is good.

Would suggest multi-strand 18awg for power and high current apps, 24awg for low power, logic or signal path (where screening is not needed)
