What concert have you last been to #3

low-bass and irie-vibration therapy; oh yes :)

ETA: needs a classic Trojan track for flavour - hmm, how about some Pancho Alphonso?

Sorry to be so unhip, but I went to a country music festival yesterday on a small island off the west coast of Scotland. Lots of noisy women in denim skirts, cowboy boots and hats, if that's your thing! Anyway, weather was great and listening to Ashley Campbell while feeling the sun on my face was probably the highlight. Lots of good bands and superb musicianship in abundance.

There's 2 Nashville/CMA songwriters "in the round" concerts in Liverpool next month, I'm going to them both. The first features Ashley Campbell, who I saw in Liverpool earlier this year.

Country/Americana music is doing pretty well at the moment. It has had a dire reputation for a long time, but the newcomers on the scene are doing a good job of kicking the old image(s) into the bucket. I have to say that I find some women singers/writers these days quite beguiling - compellingly honest lyrics and heartfelt singing. But I can live without '9 to 5'/Country Roads etc for the rest of my days, thank you.

I looked at this thread hoping and expecting Concerts to be about classical music, I thought current terminology was "Gigs"

Graham Coxon the other night at Newcastle under Lyme new vic theatre, wonderful venue ,intimate atmosphere and fantastic gig.

Penny Black Music's 20th anniversary gig at the Water Rats on Saturday: Raf & O, Oldfield Youth Club, Idiot Son and The Bitter Springs. It was a good night although the sets had to be curtailed due to a late start. They raised £560 towards Prostate Cancer and Macmillan charities too.
Then on Sunday the Centre and the Circle No 6 : Alex Monk, Skopje and Cunning Folk - really enjoyable
"The Centre and the Circle is a monthly music night specialising in psyche /free folk, music concrete, drones and kosmische sounds." It's an unusual venue

Camel at the Royal Albert Hall. They almost filled it, which was nice to see. Great show, Andy Latimer is still producing the goods aged 69.

I kept shouting for a new album, sorry if you were there, I'd had a few in the Toop and Hat and then a double G&T at the hall.

24th Sept; Fish at the Leamington Assembly. Great to hear the whole of Clutching at Straws, and his new stuff was good too.

Tonight it's Nick Mason & Co. at the Birmingham Symphany Hall.

Jose Gonzalez with The String Theory on Sunday in Bristol and the place erupted when they did local faves Massive Attack's "Teardrops"

Highly recommended if you get a chance to see them on this tour

Sample of the sort of thing they do here

Last night at The British Library (how pleasingly apt) - The KPM Allstars.
There was a lorra lorra love in that room.

If you missed it, it looks like Johnny Trunk and others are trying to make the get togethers more frequent.

Saw The Chemical Brothers at Alexandra Palace. Fantastic gig. Caught them four times in the last couple of years, but this was the best show. The integration between their music and the visuals is stunning.

They play in Dublin on Monday, then Mexico City and that's the end of their world tour ... until next year.

Jack

Have you seen them before and do you like electronic music?
Jack

I have not seen them before, although I have seen Orbital and been to a few Warp concerts/showcases, the last being Rough Trade birthday. Over 30% of my record collection is Electronic music, according to discogs categorising.
I do have the Chemical Brothers first couple of cd's but not played them in a while.
Wish I had of gone really.

Oh well next time. I asked the woman who does their PR what well be happening in future. She thought there might be a tour next year. If there is I'll definitely see a gig.
