  1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

    Charles Lloyd: Manhattan Stories.

I bought this a few weeks ago and was decidedly underwheamed by the sound quality but have played it quite a lot since and am now absorbed by the quality of the playing by what is a quite stellar line up ( Lloyd, Gabor Szabo, Ron Carter (of course) and Pete La Roca).

It's a salutary reminder, post immersion in Tone Poets and Impulse reissues, that there is no direct link between the quality of the recording and the quality of the music.

Calexico - ‘Feast of Wire’, original vinyl copy, definitely a bit more body to it than the CD.

Anything with Pete La Roca on it is great.

‘Soulville’ Ben Webster. verve vinyl. I was going to say I really liked the pianist until I saw who it was. I obviously have fine judgement….

And now, thanks to/because of Roon Radio - Christine and the Queens, Camera Obscura, Zazie, Aghast Manor and Sequentia (Vox Iberica). I have still to understand the logic behind RR choices...
