Abdullah ibrahim on Spotify. Just their random selection…. Everything from incredibly slow to quite frenetic stuff. It’s difficult to listen to an album how the artist put it together is my gripe. I go to spotty after parking my critical faculties late in the day. Must improve…

African Sketchbook is still one of my favourites. I saw him playing most of it in a solo concert in Islington in 1975 or 76. Absolutely glorious. Even asked him to sign my ticket - it’s still there, kept in the album sleeve.

Thanks. I’ll take a look. With such a long career it’s easy to miss a period when an artist gells with your tastes

Destroyer's Rubies. My wife and I are big fans of Destroyer as well as the New Pornographers, but this one somehow passed me by when it was first released. It's a great slice of quirky, angular, super-dynamic indie rock. A great-sounding record, too, at least in its 2xLP first-pressing guise.

Ry Cooder - Borderline - album on vinyl from 1980 - the second of his R&B reboot albums - following Bop ‘til you drop - another early digital recording - very bass-lite - whether that’s mastering or the recording I don’t know but it doesn’t stop it being a great album. John Hiatt plays rhythm guitar in the band and contributes the brilliant “ The Way we make a Broken Heart “. The seeds of his Bring The Family band - Cooder/Keltner plus Nick Lowe = Little Village.

I put this on as I heard the song “Speedo” on an advert on Sky Sports just now! ( original - not Ry’s version ! ).

the album is well worth a listen…

Free CD from Mojo this month, ‘Sandblasters’, compilation with choices by Plant & Kraus.

Don’t normally bother with the freebies but this one seems interesting.

Mulligan meets Monk, not played this in a while, not sure it 100% it works but has its moments.

I’m probably not Mulligan’s biggest fan

‘Further adventures of Jimmy and Wes’ Verve vinyl in mono. Some audiophile I am as I only noticed when I read the back cover!
