Vaughan Williams on R3 tonight

As part of the 150th anniversary celebrations R3 have an excellent programme tonight, two rarely played but very good pieces, Toward the Unknown Region and Job, a Masque for Dancing as well as Symphony No. 4.

Should be excellent except that the conductor is Andrew Davis, it`s enough to make you spit.

Yes, I know he is President of the Vaughan William society, just makes it worse.

What's the problem with Andrew Davis? I've enjoyed his several recordings of RVW and Elgar over the years, it's a shame he gets pigeonholed into being the British Music Guy.

I dislike his conducting style intensely, his speeds are always much too slow to show how much he cares or much too fast to show how clever he is, he is an utterly smug git who ruins pretty much everything he touches.

(Others may disagree).
