Vast Brexit thread merge part IV

Corbyn is a passive-aggressive cnut (or it is Milne?).

See my first thread after my long sabbatical.

On point no1: I am no fan of Corbyn but I still wouldn’t stoop to using that word on a public forum.

On point no2: I would save yourself some time and do something more worthwhile, such as counting ants in the garden (not a euphemism).

Counting ants is a lot of work and, let’s face it, ants pretty much look the same to nonspecialists, so you’re bound to make mistakes, possibly counting the same ant twice or thrice — or accidentally jumping from 38,003 to 68,003 because someone said a sixty-eight aloud while you were counting.

I’d suggest to instead estimate the number of ants in a colony. It’s what the pros do.

What is so remarkable about your neighbour Jack?

Is his name Nigel Farage or Rees-Mogg.

Not at all. He did however rent his place to George Cottrell, a seemingly upper-class UKIP bloke who worked for Farage as an aide. Cottrell locked himself out twice and had to break in.

"Cottrell had been working in Farage’s office and claimed on his LinkedIn account to have co-directed Ukip’s EU referendum campaign fundraising," reports The Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/politic...rmation-plea-deal-court-files-george-cottrell

Cottrell is the nephew of Lord Hesketh and Arron Banks calls him "Posh George."

The aide was then arrested in America for money-laundering. Twenty counts against Cottrell were dropped and his possible sentence was drastically cut after doing a plea bargain.

"A former aide to Nigel Farage who was arrested on money-laundering charges last year gave US federal agents “information” as part of a plea agreement that sharply reduced his possible prison sentence from a maximum of 20 years to eight months, according to court documents."

Cottrell has been seen skulking around Chelsea and Fulham lately.

In other words my next-door neighbour/owner was a full-on Brexiteer and proud to have a toff UKIPer as a tenant.

Excellent advice Joe and something I shall try to keep at the front of my thoughts for the rest of my natural life.

Wow, what a wonderfully interesting and detailed reply.

Just goes to show how little control one has in determining who lives next door and moreover your mutual compatibility/incompatibility with their political and/or views on Brexit. I am fortunate to have developed an apolitical relationship with our neighbours: he's a retired butcher; she reads a lot.

It’s not a given. My recollection is the leave campaign was inconsistent, there were plenty of statements that leaving on a Norway type model meant accepting EU rules but with no say in decisions. Which part of the leave campaign was promoting the Norway model? I recall promotion of a Canada model too. I don’t see any of these as some official line of the entire leave body, more just a load of inconsistent messages coming from different people who supported leave.
.

Yes I agree that the messages were inconsistent. Cummings designed it that way as part of the con. I certainly saw many messages about the Norway model during the campaign. Without a clear and consistent message on what form Brexit would take, there is no mandate from the referendum. Now is the time for some proper democracy. Britain deserves better than the shallow get-richer plot from the Tory hedge fund puppet masters.

What makes you think people now believe they were conned? I’ve not come across anyone who has changed their mind.

Dear Brian

There are a few users / tags on Twitter that people use who have changed their mind.

e.g. https://twitter.com/RemainerNow?lang=en
or https://twitter.com/hashtag/RemainerNow?src=hash&lang=en

They appear to be largely made up of people who feel either outright conned, or who still would like to leave but are seriously unhappy about the direction of travel.

More patronizing nonsense above. A proportion of people voted Leave because they are racists and nationalists. They should be told to f^^^ off at every opportunity.

It is a shame that there are undesirables under every stone. But they are there. I believe something quite similar to what you write above regarding the proportion of non-civic nationalists and racists that got the SNP into power. But they are to be conveniently ignored if they support the cause that is also your cause, right, Jack? I mean, if they were to f off too, the SNP would be where exactly? 36.9% of the Scottish vote...they could hardly afford to lose these types of undesirables, could they?

If they are bluffing, we have to give them credit for keeping us guessing until the end.

"The final preparations to keep Britain moving after Brexit are taking place as traffic management preparations in Kent are stepped up, government has announced today (14 October 2019). Operation Brock will go live on 28 October to manage any traffic disruption and help keep trade moving in and out of the UK … This means that from 26-27 October there will be overnight closures on the M20 between junctions 7 and 9, so that final preparations can be carried out safely." https://www.gov.uk/government/news/kent-roads-ready-for-brexit-as-hauliers-gear-up-for-31-october

This time next month, there may be no toilet paper in any of your local shops.

Brian likes posts by leavers and takes issue with posts by remainers. How he voted though will forever remain a mystery to all of us.
)
Wrong on the first bit ( link from just the last page ) Vast Brexit thread merge part IV and I agree on the second bit. No matter though.

I shall pick my words carefully here:

Gosh that’s a surprise. I have spoken to some and thought most people knew a few. Maybe I’m unusual in my experience after all.
Hi Nic,

No need to pick your words carefully, I'm fully conversant with the English language and understand exactly what you say in your posts.

Naturally, I have no reason to disbelieve what you say above, it may be true most people know a few who have changed their mind, but I was talking about people I know, not about people you or others know.

Dear ?

Thanks but just to say I don't use tw*tter.

As I said to Nic, it could be true most people know a few who have changed their mind, but I was talking about people I know, not people I don't know posting on tw*tter, facebook, or people you and others know.

Aha. I can see some top detective work going on there.
Let's hope people who are paid to do detective work are a lot better at it than rbrown and others here. In particular, let's hope people who do real detective work with facts.

Brian likes his air of inscrutability on Brexit. He’s not so shy about his support for Labour’s policies, his dislike of Tory policies, and his desire for a second Referendum. So...

Pretty lefty, but ambiguous on Brexit. I reckon Brian is Jeremy Corbyn.

(sigh) Any, any evidence for this belief of yours for which which you have already apologised for but have chosen to reiterate?

https://www.pinkfishmedia.net/forum...ad-merge-part-iii.232498/page-37#post-3780787

The SNP vote is made up largely of ex Labour voters. Why?
Do you seriously think* they have now become nationalist/racist?

( * I should have left it there...)

rich does seem to be greatly exercised over scotland and issues scottish. esp with respect to racism, nationalism and general anti-string-vestism. who knows, maybe he encountered some issues while he was up here tearing up the place as yet one more hooray henry wrecking the west coast because some mindless muppet had stuck a label on a few miles of various bits of road in order to extract more cash from the place. who knows? he also seems to be exercised over strasbourg, brussels and things french and continental in general. greatly exercised is rich :)
