Has anyone used this company recently? I have been trying to make contact regarding a TT repair which they are doing for me but they are not answering their phone or returning calls noted on their answering machine. This has been so for more than 4 weeks

Any recent knowledge or reports on the situation?

Many thanks.

Do you mean Vantage Audio ?

Many thanks.

Yes - you are correct Chris! It is my fault for not checking before posting.

I have since heard that Richard has had a few personal problems related to health. Having met Richard and spoken to him on several occasions I have every certainty that I will get my SP10 motor and PS back just as soon as he can get it shipped. I inspected his work after he had completed the main part.....the standard of care and craftsmanship was simply amazing. However I do urgently need it to be returned: I have been without it for a considerable time and have now turned 70!!!

Many thanks again Chris.

I will be grateful to hear if anyone has managed to contact Richard. Also I hope for his sake that his problems are soon overcome.

I have been trying to contact Richard myself , I think he must have been ill , I'm sure when he is able your SP10 will be returned .

After sending off my machine, I was told by several people that they waited several years to get their turntable back from Vantage.
And severe difficulty making contact.

I constantly nagged in order to get mine back in several months. I wouldn't go back there for anything.

My experience was three years ago. Not getting any better?

Used Vantage before - they machined a new balance weight for the arm on my Pioneer DD TT. Excellent service and v helpful chap. Generally they appear to be v well regarded in DD TT circles.

Sorry but I don't have a bad word to say about Richard , top bloke. ! But he does take on too much ? He needs someone to help him .

I have to say that I have not seen such meticulous work as that which Richard produces.

IF there are other TT specialists out there who are as knowledgeable and capable of working successfully on rarer TTs I have not heard of them. He is also a very decent guy and my SOLE gripe is this period of non-communication.

All this praise is very nice, but I wish I'd known that several people were waiting 2 years, and even 5 years................and still hadn't got their players back, and couldn't contact him.

People need to know what they are getting into.

I warned about this 3 years ago and I was told then that I was being 'unfair' to an admirable small business. I'm surprised that people are prepared to accept this kind of service.
I'd find somebody in USA or Germany who would do it (in a reasonable time).

Richard did tell me of some customers who sent TT's that were almost impossible to repair without finding extremely rare and hard to find components !

Richard made this clear to said customers and that it could take an excessive amount of time for repair , said customers in some cases were almost impossible to deal with ? Expecting miracles and then accusing Richard of being a crook ?

'Sourcing parts from Japan' seems to be the excuse for delay, but customers aren't told anything.
It happens surprisingly often. I guess he must just have a lot of 'difficult customers'

No one is accusing Richard of 'being a crook'. He is being accused of being disorganised - as you suggested ( 'taking on too much' )

I seem to recall having a phone converation with him where he mentioned the internet connection was incredibly unreliable - I think they're miles from the nearest exchange and experience a lot of problems in this regard. Phone comms were v good though!

Absolutely nothing admirable about keeping customers waiting years. I wouldn't touch him or his business with a barge pole.

Chris

Hear hear. Being nice is not a compensation for poor service. It's good that people speak-up for this chap, who sounds perfectly sincere; but who wants to be in a situation where they can't even get replies to their messages?

Agreed, had an old Alfa Spider with a 'Thoroughly nice chap' for over a Year, went down and Forcibly took it out of his garage, with the help of some 'friendly' heavies just before he went down the pan and F**ked off to Australia..with all respect to the OP, a record Deck is one thing, your Classic Car is another. His garage was full of Alfas and even an old Maserati..

Any 'new' news? [The website now has a statement at the first page saying, in effect, that a reopening is imminent.]

Many thanks.
