  1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

    For sale:

Pickwell Audio upgrade platter for the Thorens TD145/150/160/125 etc belt drive series of turntables in grey cast iron.

Manufactured to my specification and design in South Yorkshire by a specialist company that normally does work for the aerospace sector.

Directly replaces the cast zinc alloy platter.

Fully machines an all surfaces to better tolerances than the original part. These platter are better balanced than the originals and are approximately 17% heavier, which results in better speed stability and lower wow.

They are also much less resonant than the original alloy platter thanks to the superb inherent damping properties of the grey cast iron material.

The original platters vary is mass a little but typically they are just over 2kg. The original platter on my own TD125 mk2 weighs 2035g for example. The new iron platter is 357g heavier at 2392g.

In most cases no adjustment will be necessary but you may need to make a small adjustment to the suspension to compensate for the increased weight.

These iron platter are magnetic, which is not an issue with the vast majority of MM carts. Some MC carts may need the VTF adjusting slightly to compensate for any magnetic attraction of the cart to the platter. This is best done by measuring the VTF with a tracking force gauge as the built in settings of the tonearm may no longer be accurate. With some VTF gauges you may want to remove the mat first to get the cartridge closer to the normal playing height.
