Unwanted silence from Naim - help needed!

It appears right, but is dead silent=) I have no previous knowledge of naim, and feel strangely confused....

In the Naim world there is a difference between blank cover and a "link plug" - which is what you need. Do you have a multimeter? can you measure for continuity between pins 1 and 3 (top two pins) of the blanking plug you are using. If no continuity it's the wrong type.

Since the previous owner was using it with a Flatcap a "link plug" was not required.

Yes...the covers are wider than the sockets and are just that...covers...not sure if they even have pins in them or just slip over the outer rim of the socket.

The link plugs are the same width as the socket and have pins 1 & 3 linked inside: Link plug internals. Any 5 pin 240 din can be used if suitably shorted between pins 1 & 3

You can see the difference on this pic at 6 moons

And indeed more than 2 types...the NAC102 for instance comes with a combined blanking /link plug

May I just interject here: I haven't a clue as to the OP's problem or its solution, but I feel the need to reiterate Gaius' point...

...this really is a wonderful site and the helpfulness of you all is a joy to behold.

(If this seems a bit gushing in the cold, clear light of day, put it down to my having had to go out and drown my sorrows, as today my football team lost to another particular team, which they haven't done for over 30 years. If you know to what I'm referring, you may well be grieving as well... )

In the meantime, I wish Tevez (not his real name, this is a Freudian slip) every success with finding the answer to his problem.

Nice one Johnny Blue, thanks....

I do believe the problem is with the correct blanking plug as I, NJ and others have said may lie at the heart here.

When you get it working OP, let it warm up, well for a day or two, and then you'll remember why you bought it.

Naim is never very easy but when right and in song, rather good...

I'm hoping this might the problem. I will tomorrow try to take a pic of the blanking plug I'm using (it's a 5-pin plug with narrow plastic cover though, but maybe the wrong one...) thanks!

One more questions before I give up for today=)

Could improper grounding cause this total silence? (I've btw noticed that the by naim stated 15 seconds for the mute to turn off due to the circuits stabilizing is more like a full minute on my 112X)

Improper grounding would only cause humming/buzzing not total silence. A trip to your nearest Naim junkie will fix this in a blink of an eye. If your familiar with a ohm's meter checking all your cabling for continuity is what i would do. Don't dis pair you will get to the bottom of this problem. Calling Naim wouldn't hurt also.

Ok thanks Jack - I might try to call naim during the coming week.

I have now snapped a PHOTO of the back of my naims, where you ca see how I have made the connections and of the blanking plug I use. For some reason, I'm not allowed to post pictures in this thread - but if anyone feels like helping me in telling if I made some obvious misstake when connecting the units, please send me an e-mail at: [email protected]

Cheers!

(poor quality I'm afraid, but shows the 5-pin blank plug seen in the other pic)

Looks like it should=)?

Thomas - I don't know, but am getting my hopes up with this question since I always before yesterday used RCA with my CD5i. Do you know how to do this?
