UK ‘rejected offer’ of visa-free tours by musicians in EU

The UK has/had a thriving music/theatre/corporate event industry where we worked all over Europe way outnumbering the Europeans coming here to work and we contributed very useful amounts of tax to HMRC. I'm escaping the issue as I'm close to retirement but talent in a lot of fields is moving abroad. It's much easier to pick up kit from say Belgium to tour round Europe and either get 1 carnet for the UK or not bother to come than take the kit from the UK and different carnets for each of the sovereign countries which are EU members. I look forward to the Brexiteers volunteering to make up for the lost tax receipts.

Good thing the Beatles started before we 'took back control' and tightened up on people earning a living by making music.
Patel is a spiteful fat arse.

A friend of mine is a highly skilled video technician who works (worked) at large events in Europe such as festivals, grands prix, etc. His work was almost entirely within the EU, and he worked for various agencies in this specialist field. He hasn't worked since lockdown, and now he's faced with having to try to pick up work in the UK when things resume, rather than the EU, because the hassle for the agencies means they're more likely to look first at EU citizens for the jobs, so he'll be competing with Brits for work in the UK, with UK agencies who don't know him.

I needed a visa every time I worked as an engineer, played guitar and holidayed in the states.
I always wondered what the world was coming to.

I don't recall it being a major inconvenience though.

We’ll be having none of that Beethoven, Mozart and Kraftwerk nonsense in Little England (though Nigel does like marching to Wagner in his Clandestine Channel Commander uniform)!

If Beethoven or Mozart apply for visas, we'll need a customs and exorcist department.
