'Twice as many CDs, half as many friends'

Hmm, I don't really relate to that. I actually have more music than the author, although my taste is more eclectic - I don't have anywhere near that level of OCD.

With the friends thing, it's important not to talk about the music you love to anyone who doesn't share your enthusiasm. That's a sure fire way of losing friends. Some of my friends like music, so sometimes we talk about it. Others don't, so we talk about other stuff.

I don't know anyone who's into hi-fi though.

He is talking more about the addictive OCD behavior of collecting and not necessarily just music. The no. of CDs has no negative correlation with the no. of friends; it's more your behavior and attitude. It can apply to any other addictive OCD behavior.

Misleading to read it in another way.
