Tweaks You Cannot Live Without

Hi, looking for options to protect new wood floor (being installed December).
would you know whether the polymer will leave marks on wood? I have been considering thick felt stuck under my current speaker "slabs" in place of the spikes that I currently use.

Hi, for your needs I would recommend that you are able to match the loading properly, you can go here: https://www.qtasystems.co.uk/loudspeaker-components/sorbothane-isolation.htm / https://www.qtasystems.co.uk/articles/how-to-use-sorbothane-hemispheres.htm to match with your required loading weight.

Also, yes, it is possible that marks can be left, so would recommend something like matched veneer squares, or anything suitable, to go between the sorbothane & the floor.

No tweaks, just plug it in with wires to connect all the bits together as the manufacturers intended and listen. I do have a 'HiFi' stand, does that count? But it was found cheap on ebay as it has some damage and no one else seemed to want it. I consider it furniture with convenient height shelves to hold my bits of stereo.

I just place a small and almost invisible patch of cling film between the sorbothane and the surface you don't want to stain.

I'm not really a fan of tweaks for myself. Have tried a few and mostly concluded that at my present rung on the ladder, I'd probably be better off putting the money into the kit instead.

Totally agree on speaker isolation / mechanical low pass filters, though (Gaia, Townshend etc.) made a big difference in our place (suspended floor) soundstage is better too!

Agree on tightness also - I usually follow: "tight enough to make a decent mechanical connection but not much more". My assumption is that excessive tightness beyond that would simply introduce stresses into the surfaces of the materials which would negatively affect the way they handle vibrations.

Soundcare SuperSpikes could work well in this application.

I've always suspected that our rural mains were a bit dodgy. The Belkin 40 filter / distribution thingy has a voltage indicator on it which is shewing 243V at the moment, but often goes as high as 250V.

Last week I bought a Power Inspired 500 mains regenerator and am using it on preamp, CD, tuner, phono preamp, and it's made a huge difference. The sound is more spacious and "rounded", the bass goes deeper and bass lines are easier to hear. &c, &c.

Most startlingly, I can hear the words ! I've never been able to hear the words !:)

If, as some of the comments on here seem to suggest, these Power Inspired things go pop after a while, this is going to get expensive if it ever needs replacing, as it's definitely a tweak I can't live without.

I've been listening most of the day, to CDs I've had for decades. Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique (Norrington) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000006L7D/?tag=pinkfishmedia-21

has turned from a recording into a performance, and the clarinet on Finzi's Clarinet Concerto (Naxos/Plane/Northern Sinfonia) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00000HZXA/?tag=pinkfishmedia-21

is sublime. Tempi are more fluid, too. It's actually quite riveting. It's almost as though for the first time I can really hear what the system can do, although you only really notice the music. Brilliant.

(Hyperbole off.)
