I want to take the digital output (optical) from my Panasonic TV into my Shanling CD-T1000 CDP valve DAC. The only problem is it has USB and co-ax digital inputs only. Ive seen these converter things on Ebay but they look a bit naff to me:

Do they work without degrading the sound? I know logically they should either work/not work and shouldnt make any difference but is there anything better out there? I dont want to spend an arm and a leg.
